The state quarter features a Palmetto Tree, Carolina Wren, and Yellow Jessamine. The Carolina Wren is the state bird, and the Yellow Jessamine is the state flower, which can be found all through the state. During the revolutionary war, colonists prevented the British from taking over Charleston Harbor by fighting from a little fort made of palmetto logs.The state nickname is "The Palmetto State".
